There's a lot of add-ons available for you to improve your Thunderbird from the Thunderbird page.
One of the notable add-ons that is useful is the "Minimize to Tray" add-on. Get it here.
Please bear in mind that you have to right click the download link and select "save target as" for Firefox user. DO NOT REPEAT THE SAME MISTAKE ADRIAN HAD MADE. Hahahaha....
